Blaming each other, but holding American citizens hostage. This is our government and you work for us. Not the other way around. Get to work and reopen already. Not one decent person in government, starting with orange president and ending with any state officials.

@deborahhopkinson5243 October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

If Trump is looking for ways to not backpay Americans for labor already provided (unlawful,) no Federal employee should go to work. Obviously, Americans do not need a Federal government; it needs to be dissolved, and all assets and land returned to natural-born American people. State governments are more than sufficient.

The Truth / FACTS about ObamaCare:

Major expansion in health coverage

The uninsured rate has dropped significantly. (~45 million fewer uninsured people since 2013).

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

As of early 2023-2024, about 45 million Americans have coverage via ACA-related sources (Marketplaces + Medicaid expansion).

Marketplace enrollment is increasing

Over 20 million people are enrolled in ACA Marketplace plans in 2024.

Premium tax credits and improved subsidies have helped reduce costs for many.

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

Medicaid expansion is saving lives / improving health

States that expanded Medicaid under the ACA saw reductions in mortality among newly covered populations. A recent study found that over 2010-2022, Medicaid expansion reduced mortality risk by about 2.5% overall, and ~20% for those who gained coverage because of the expansion.

TIME

Improved access to preventative care, better management of chronic diseases, and earlier diagnosis (e.g. of hypertension) have been shown in research.

Affordability improvements (for many, at least)

Enhanced subsidies (especially during/after the pandemic) have lowered premium costs for many Marketplace enrollees.

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

Financial assistance has helped reduce out-of-pocket costs, making care more accessible.

Reduced disparities

Coverage gaps across income, race/ethnicity, geography have narrowed in many cases because of ACA expansions.

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

⚠ Challenges / What’s less good / Still being improved

Insurance instability / churn

Even with ACA, many people lose coverage over 1–2 year periods, especially those on Medicaid or in Marketplace plans. Employer-based insurance tends to be more stable.

JAMA Network

Cost issues remain for some

Even with subsidies, premiums, deductibles, copays can still be high, especially in some states or for those who don’t qualify for large subsidies.

Claim denial rates in ACA plans are nontrivial; some reports show ~20% average claims denial rate in Marketplace plans.

Axios

Uneven state participation

Not all states have expanded Medicaid. States that have not expanded Medicaid generally have worse outcomes in terms of coverage, access to care, and cost burdens.

Gaps remain in health outcomes, especially long-term and among vulnerable populations

While many studies show improvements in self-reported health, preventive services, etc., effects on actual long-term health outcomes (beyond mortality, and especially in chronic disease management) are still being evaluated.

Policy uncertainty & subsidy/benefit fluctuations

Some subsidy enhancements are temporary or subject to legislative renewal. If subsidies are reduced, many people’s costs will increase.

Policy changes and judicial rulings sometimes threaten certain coverage requirements (for example, about preventive care or requirements on insurers).

⚡ Bottom line

Overall, Obamacare has worked reasonably well in its goals of expanding coverage, improving access, reducing uninsured rates, and improving health outcomes for many people. It’s far from perfect, though, and the gains are uneven depending on state, income level, and whether someone is in a particularly high-cost area or has less access to providers.

@Robert-bo1jq October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

They should be paying tax payers

@Robert-bo1jq October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

Congress shouldn't be getting paid period

@carolwalkerfountaine1676 October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

If we the people want to be heard, then stop spending for an entertainment week and those not getting paid, then stop showing up until their pay shows up in their accounts. We can stop this crap only if we unite as we the people to voice our concerns and be heard……..
We must not be divided against each other…we must fight this together…..Elbows Up, America!!!

@carolwalkerfountaine1676 October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

Every federal worker not being paid should stop showing up for work, it’s that simple.

@libertycoffeehouse3944 October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

Why should we pay government workers. They have destroyed the United States. Paying someone to do damage does not make sense. Get rid of the entire Federal Government. The corporations are the only ones to benefit. Every law is to give handouts to corporations. Our government is socialist. The news media are all for socialism, communism and globalism. Let's go back to the Articles of Confederation.

@OayzHozey October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

Desperation has been kickin in and the GOP can't do their job. Blaming everyone else but their own party because they are too incompetent.

Congress and Senators are Federal Employees, yet they get their pay…

@crst2785 October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

Trump gave $20 billion of our taxpayer dollars to help Argentina's government. What happened to "America First"? Years ago, Trump said Qatar funded terrorism…yet today he signed an executive order for Qatar to have a base on U.S. soil…in Idaho. Again, what happened to "America First"?

Air traffic control is short-staffed. Thooe required to work are not getting paid because the government shut down. Then, some genius threatens termination for those who call out sick. Won't that worsen the problem?

@toroneewebster6639 October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

If they don't pay you for furlough then they may not have any workers. If you quit then you deserve it, if it last 45 days or more then whoever stays deserve every dam dime. I don't believe unpaid workers will go hungry. TSA worker can work things out. At least you got a job.

@RaulQuiroz-nd2di October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

JOHNSON : NOT IN MY BACKYARD !!😂😂😂😂😂

@CG_VON October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

I would say this is another example of republicans being very unreasonable. Unless federal workers are still paid during the shutdown. You are giving workers what they are owed.

It is being unreasonable to support a budget plan that hurts people and could cause deaths. Republicans has been making attempts to cut spending for social programs for years and Democrats have no real choice to trust Republicans word on healthcare. The OBBB calls for $1.2T in healthcare (Medicaid) and SNAP cuts and includes other aspects. It will cause problems for families and individuals and something that should not be allowed. There are other budget items to cut because they are waste of tax paying dollars. Giving subsides to already profitable companies.

@MONICARJONES-j2r October 17, 2025 - 5:24 am

Those workers have families!!! This is ridiculous!!
